Home Remedies For Sore Throat, Strep Throat

Strep throat is inflammation of the throat, tonsils and lymph nodes due to infection with group A streptococcus bacteria. Strep throat is very common during the flu seasons and it can be preceded by mild symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing or cough. The incubation period of strep throat is around 3-5 days and most symptoms occur within this period of time. Common symptoms of strep throat are: throat inflammation and swelling, difficult swallowing, difficult breathing, mucus-producing cough, fatigue, body weakness, headache, nausea, poor appetite, enlargement of the lymph nodes and tonsils, excessive sweating and fever.

The herb 'belleric myroblan' is a precious remedy. A mixture of 2 grams of the pulp of the fruit, a quarter teaspoon of salt, 1/2 a tablespoon of powdered long pepper and 2 tablespoons of honey should be administered in the treatment of this condition. The fried fruit can also be roasted after covering it with wheat flour and used as a remedy.


To help you breath easier you can use a vaporizer in your bedroom at night. The warm mist will help you to feel a bit more comfortable simply by soothing your swollen air passages. As an added benefit you will find that you will also eliminate any hoarseness that you may have developed. You should keep in mind that under no circumstances should you let your room temperature

become unbearably cold as this will only make your condition worse.

Mix 1 tablespoon each of honey and lemon juice in 1 cup warm water and sip this mixture slowly. This Home Remedy for Sore Throat is also recommended by most of users.

Herbal Throat Lozenges. These herbal lozenges are simple, easy to make, and are effective in treating sore threats. In preparing these lozenges, mix 3 tablespoons powdered licorice, 3 tablespoons marshmallow or slippery elm, 3 tablespoons red raspberry leaves, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 10 drops scented geranium, sage, or rosemary, essential oil, honey and cornstarch

Cayenne pepper, another common item in the kitchen can also be used as an herbal remedy for sore throat. Boil water and add cayenne pepper. The ratio of this is 1 cup of water is to ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Mix the ingredients and stir well. Unlike ginger, you will not drink this concoction but gargle it. For it to be effective, it should be gargled while it is still warm.

Cover one half of a lemon with salt and pepper and press with a knife or the back of a spoon so that the salt and pepper absorbs into the lemon. Warm the lemon either in the oven or in the microwave. Do not overheat. When it is warm, slowly lick the lemon, squeezing it at the same time until there is no more juice. Repeat this 2 to 3 times daily.
